In Australia the IB Diploma sits alongside the HSC, VCE, QCE and the other state certificates, and most IB schools offer both. Students who choose the IB are choosing a programme that is assessed internationally and then converted to an ATAR for Australian university entry, so every point in the final score feeds straight into university offers.
IBScholarz provides one-to-one online IB tutoring for Australian students, with tutors who teach the IB syllabus and assessment criteria specifically. Lessons run live in your local time zone, and every session is recorded so your child can revisit it before a test.
IB tutoring for Australian IB schools
We work with IB MYP and Diploma students in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and Canberra, including students at schools such as:
- Cranbrook School, Sydney
- Pymble Ladies’ College, Sydney
- Wesley College, Melbourne
- Methodist Ladies’ College, Melbourne
- Carey Baptist Grammar School, Melbourne
- Geelong Grammar School
- Canberra Grammar School
IBScholarz is an independent tutoring provider and is not affiliated with any of these schools. Each student’s plan is built around their own school’s calendar of tests, IA deadlines and trial exams.
Built for the November exam session
Unlike most of the IB world, Australian schools sit their final exams in the November session. That shifts the whole two-year rhythm: IAs and the Extended Essay fall due through the middle of Year 12, trial exams come around August and September, and the final push runs through October. We plan tutoring around that southern-hemisphere calendar rather than the May timetable most IB resources assume.
IB scores and the ATAR
Australian universities do not use the IB score directly. Tertiary admissions centres convert it to an ATAR, and at the top end small differences in the IB total make a real difference to the converted rank. That is why so many Australian families focus on lifting HL subjects from a 5 to a 6, or a 6 to a 7.
Every IB subject, Higher and Standard Level
- Mathematics: Analysis & Approaches (AA) and Applications & Interpretation (AI), HL and SL
- Sciences: Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Computer Science, Environmental Systems & Societies
- Individuals & Societies: Economics, Business Management, Psychology, Geography, History
- Languages: English A Language & Literature and English A Literature
- The Core: Theory of Knowledge, Extended Essay guidance and Internal Assessment support in every subject
Lessons in your time zone
Lessons are booked in your local time, whether that is AEST/AEDT on the east coast, ACST in Adelaide or AWST in Perth. Weekday sessions run from 4pm to 9pm local time, with morning and afternoon slots on weekends. In the weeks before trials and the November exams we add extra past-paper revision slots.
How it works
- Free trial lesson. Your child meets a tutor matched to their subject and level and works through material from their current unit.
- A plan built on their school calendar. We map upcoming tests, IA drafts and EE milestones and set a weekly rhythm around them.
- Regular progress updates. Parents hear what was covered, what is improving and what still needs work.
Why Australian families choose IBScholarz
- Certified tutors who specialise in IB assessment, not general tutoring
- Founded by an IBDP Mathematics tutor with 15 years of experience preparing students for a 7
- 80% of our students score a 6 or 7, and students in regular classes improve by an average of two grades
- Every lesson recorded so your child can revisit it before tests and exams
Frequently asked questions
Do you tutor students who sit the IB in November?
Yes. Australian schools sit the November session, and we plan IA support, trial preparation and final revision around that calendar.
Which cities in Australia do you cover?
All of them. Lessons are online, so we work with students in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Canberra and regional areas, scheduled in their local time zone.
How does the IB score convert to an ATAR?
Tertiary admissions centres publish a conversion table each year that maps IB totals to an ATAR. The higher the IB total, the higher the converted rank, so lifting even one or two subjects can matter.
Can you help with the IA and Extended Essay?
Yes. We help students choose a workable research question, plan the investigation and understand the assessment criteria. The work itself always stays the student’s own, in line with IB academic integrity rules.
How much does IB tutoring in Australia cost?
Pricing depends on the subject, level and how often you want sessions. Contact us for a quote and we will send you the options.
Is the first lesson free?
Yes. Every new student starts with a free trial lesson so you can judge the fit before committing.
